Green Ice-Ice-Baby Cubes!

juice then freeze, that’s it!

My smoothies can never be too green, so why not add a couple of green ice cubes to go with them?  There is some research out there debating whether or not freezing your fresh raw juices affects the nutritional content–but something is better than nothing, right?   True, some nutrition is affected when it’s frozen, and some enzymes are destroyed as well, but according to research, not ALL.  That is good enough for me!

I couldn’t help myself with the cheesy title.  Vanilla Ice ruined anything frozen for me ions agoVanilla_Ice_Ice_Ice_Baby.gif

Have you ever seen a special on the leafy greens at your local grocer or farmers market, and decided to not take advantage of the deal because you didn’t want it to just sit in your fridge and spoil?  Well, by juicing them and immediately freezing them in ice cubes, you are making a stockpile of frozen phyto nutrients that you can save for a rainy day, and greener smoothie.  This is also a great kitchen project for the little people too (children).  My two boys loved watching me pop out super green ice cubes!  Green is our favorite color 🙂

Sidenote: In Living Color (Jim Carrey) made enduring Vanilla Ice all worth it 🙂

This frozen trick is great for people who are looking for strategies to up their green intake.  I drop in two ice cubes, and then at least two cups of leafy greens (usually spinach) to our smoothies.  They are super green, nutritious and delicious.

So what do you think about freezing your juice, smoothies or produce?  I know that the Dr Sebi Nutritional guide says no to canned or seedless fruits, but it doesn’t mention anything about staying away from freezing.  I say something is better than nothing.  If there ever comes a day when you want to make a smoothie but ran out of greens yesterday, or all of your greens wilted in your fridge, at least you still have your green ice cubes.  A fraction of the enzymes may still be intact, but it’s better than no greens at all.

Okay, so a few hundred words later:  this post is all about something being better about nothing, and getting your greens in any way you can.
