Making baby food is so easy, quick and satisfying. I love to see the smile on my babe’s face when he’s loving my latest concoction. The secret to a good puree in my opinion is to:
- Have one base fruit that blends well and offers the most sweetness
- Add a dash of citrus (lemon, nice natural preservative)
- Add some kind of veggie, because you always need a veggie 🙂
I made a new batch last night and put them in my reusable food pouches I bought online. The good, organic purees that come in the pouches are pretty delicious and but pricey; why not just make your own though?
My son still enjoys a late night snack. Instead of soothing him with a bottle, I cradle him and give him a delicious, comforting baggie of mommy’s purees. It’s so rewarding to see your child nourished and satisfied, especially when it means they go back to sleep (which means I can go back to sleep!).
Ingredients:
2 Fuji apples (boiled/steamed)
2 small carrots (boiled/steamed)
1/2 fresh, super ripe mango
1 small banana
1 small squeeze of lemon (optional)
How I do it:
I put my carrots and apples in a small pot with a little water and set it to boil. I boil for only a few minutes, turn it off, top it with a lid and let the steam continue to soften them up. I could also just steam them.
While those are in the pot, I prepped my pouches, and added the banana and mango to the blender.Once my apples and carrots are ready, to the blender they go, along with a small drizzle of the water it cooked in to help with the consistency.
My batch made 20 ounces, so I filled five pouches to the 4 ounce mark. Perfect size for a little person snack anytime of the day.
There you go, enjoy it and get some sleep!
Store them in the fridge for 3-5 days. Don’t feed your baby funky food, if it’s any older give it to your plants:)
