Almond Butter Meditation Recipe

Hot husband: Hey boo, what are you up to today?

Me: Making almond butter.

Hot husband:  I thought you did that yesterday.

Me: I’m almost done (sigh, while holding my hand on the top of my food processor)

You can look up recipes and tutorials on how to make the delicious almond butter and they will all lead you to believe that it’s a quick, easy process.  Well I am here to tell you that IT’S A LIE!  Making your own almond butter can be tedious, long and frustrating.  However, if you focus on the process, and keep the delicious end product in mind, you will be successful and see the fruit of your labor.  I make almond butter every week, since I eat it every morning for breakfast (I don’t switch up my menu much).  I have made it in my Vitamix many times, and have burned out my Vitamix many times while doing so.  I decided to get a food processor, a small, second-hand one, and I think I broke it with the almonds!  Well, it’s still functioning, but right before it gets to the creamy end process, I have to put pressure on it to keep it going.  Oh, and that’s after I have to let the machine rest for several minutes since it burns out on me a few times during this “meditation”.

Ingredients:

  • Almonds (about 200 grams for a food processor or 2-4 cups for a vitamix)
  • Dash of salt (optional)
  • Drizzle of olive oil (optional)DSC00636

Directions:

  • Put all in your processor (strong bladed appliance of some sort) and process until smooth and creamy.
  • Stop to scrape down the sides in the food processor.
  • Use your tamper in your vitamix.
  • Also stop to prevent your appliance from burning out like mine.
  • Or stop to go to sleep, shower, etc.

If it doesn’t short out, I can get it done same day, an hour to two hours, give or take? But who can dedicate an hour to holding down the top of a food processor???!!!

Think nutty thoughts, think nutty thoughts…almost done!!!

Maybe this constant DIY disaster is my fault.  Maybe I need a better blade for my food processor, and tamper my Vitamix better.  It’s much cheaper to buy a bag of almonds and churn them creamy than it is to buy a jar (anywhere from $6-$26).  Well it’s cheaper if it takes 30 minutes and not two days. Whatever the case, I decided to look at this simple recipe as a recipe for meditation.  When you meditate, you focus on something (breathing, counting, repeating affirmations right?) and you visualize things you want in your life.  Well, I want delicious almond butter and I am willing to put in the time and effort to get it.   Plus, I appreciate it more, and savor it as I let it dance on my taste buds and jog my memory of my labor of love.  Yummy Omega-6 fatty goodness, topped with a drizzle of maple/honey or a small spoon of strawberry preserves is what I meditate on, every week.

Can anyone out there tell me the secret to 30 minute almond butter?  I want to be like those people on TV!!!
