OK, yes, I know the title is a bit cheesy, but you have to get creative sometimes with song to get your children excited about things. My boys love to hate when I sing. They love the contagiousness of Mommy’s constant rhyming, dancing and singing, yet they know (and so do I) that I don’t sing well. Los pobres, and their precious ears. Anyway, this is about my recipe for apple cabbage juice. This juice has a spritz of lemon/lime and should be poured through a strainer so it’s nice and smooth for your children (texture, texture, texture). This juice is for adults too, of course, but since it’s more on the sweet side, I leave it for them.
Apple juice contains Vitamin A, B & C along with potassium, flavonoids and tannins. These goodies contribute to eye health, strong teeth, boosting immunity, preventing cancer coodies of the colon and lung, blood pressure and other nice features in this sweet juice. Yes, it has been said that apple juice contains arsenic, so I would recommend peeling and taking the core/seeds out of them (especially if they aren’t organic).
Cabbage juice is awesome too. I wouldn’t juice too many leaves with the apples, because in my opinion the taste can be a little overbearing (especially for toddlers). This juice is great for your skin, preventing cancer coodies (of course), boosting immunity and other pros that we’ll save for another post.
Lemons or limes are great. Vitamin C, need I say more?
In other words, juicing fresh fruits and vegetable is natures medicine. Let’s put down the devils nectar (juice boxes!) and pick up a fresh apple instead. Let’s teach our children the true source of what they put in their bodies and get them involved in the kitchen. My boys love pushing produce through the juicer, it’s like kitchen magic They’re destroying something in order to make something delicious. Now what child (especially boys) doesn’t like to destroy things and put sweet things in their mouths!?
Ingredients:
- 2 beautiful big apples (Fuji or red delicious I recommend)
- 1-2 big cabbage leaves
- quarter of a lemon (to start)
My Process:
- Peel, wash, de-seed all of your precious produce and press through your juicer.
- Pour your finished juice through a strainer (I like to use my tea thingee)
- Serve over ice, and watch your children smile, swallow and probably use the bathroom an hour later (tee-hee).
