Taking care of our hair, can involve a lot of oils, creams, conditioners, serums and supplements, but what about juicing? Drinking the natural, live juice from extracted fruits and vegetables seems to be becoming more and more popular nowadays and it is my hope to see a growing trend in the natural hair community…actually ANY hair community. Whether your hair is natural, colored, relaxed, permed, bleached–you still have hair on your head and need to take care of it. Drinking live juice, is a safe and easy way to care for our natural beauty from the inside out. There are many reasons to make squeezing and extracting these juices a part of your hair care regime, but here are five of my favorites:
- Quick Assimilation: It’s helpful to take a multi-vitamin or other supplements such as Vitamin E and Biotin when caring for our hair, and often we take them in synthetic pill/capsule form. This method is great and works for many; however, extracted, live juice, is assimilated in your body much quicker (15 min!) and can be taken on an empty stomach. So just push some veggies and fruits through your juicer and drink up natures medicine.
- Stress Management: Stress, especially when not managed well, can slow down hair growth in addition to affecting other bodily functions. Juicing can help to manage stress by providing the body with natural, absorbable sources of magnesium. Our body uses a lot of magnesium when stressed, and a deficiency in this precious mineral can lead to panic attacks, insomnia and nervousness to name a few. Juicing is a great way to keep your supply up when you’re going through stressful times (loss of a loved one, work-related, drama, drama, drama).
- Hydration: Staying hydrated is necessary to stimulate hair growth and to keep it from becoming dry and brittle. Juicing is another great way to stay hydrated, especially with cucumbers, watermelon, oranges having such a high water content. Dehydration can slow down your hair growth, so let’s drink up.
- Live Vitamin C: Vitamin C helps your body to build collagen, which is vital to your new, beautiful hair cells being produced. This vitamin is most beneficial when FRESH, being that it can be destroyed off during cooking. Live juice from freshly squeezed oranges, or fresh pressed strawberries is the best way to get this precious vitamin. So squeeze, squeeze, and squeeze some more!
- It’s Delicious: Juicing doesn’t have to taste like armpits or liquid sawdust. Juicing fruits such as oranges or apples along with your green leafy vegetables is a delicious way to meet your daily nutritional needs for healthy hair. Also, the taste of sweet live food in a glass is so good, you’ll want to experience it everyday.
I hope this encourages everyone on the journey to having a head full of healthy hair to start squeezing their oranges and pressing kale through a juicer. Start beautifying yourself on a cellular level and get a gorgeous outward reflection of beautiful tresses in return.
